Laser Eye Surgery Consultation

Is Laser Eye Surgery Right for You?

Corrective eye surgery is a great option for people who want to live free from the constraints of glasses and contacts. But not every patient is a good candidate for every procedure.

Wake Family Eye Care is here to talk you through your options, and make sure you’re getting the best surgery for you.

More Information About Laser Eye Surgery

Once we’ve determined your eligibility for surgery, we’ll go explain the process to you. This is your opportunity to ask any questions you might have. We’ll refer you to a skilled and trustworthy ophthalmologist for your procedure, and we’ll even check in with you after your surgery to make sure everything is healing as it should.

LASIK

LASIK is done by making a thin flap on the cornea, and folding it back to reshape the eye tissue underneath. The flap is then replaced, acting like a natural bandage. Patients feel very little discomfort, and typically experience clear vision within a matter of hours.

LASEK

LASEK works roughly the same way as LASIK, however the flap on the cornea is thinner and loosened with an alcohol solution rather than cut open. LASEK is often recommended for patients whose corneas are deemed too thin for LASIK.

Epi-LASIK

Similar to LASEK, Epi-LASIK creates a thinner corneal flap. It differs from LASEK in that the flap is made using a special cutting tool. This cuts down the possibility of irritation from alcohol of the surface of the eye.
Bladeless LASIK
Instead of a microkeratome, Bladeless LASIK uses another laser to create the flap on the cornea. The additional laser potentially cuts down on complications that can arise during the creation of the flap.

Wavefront LASIK

This particular laser treatment is designed by a computerized mapping of your eye. This provides a more customized and accurate correction than just doing the correction based on your prescription. Studies show that Wavefront LASIK may cut down on glare and light halos after the procedure.

Just like any surgery, laser eye correction requires you take a little extra care of yourself after the procedure to ensure a speedy recovery. Make sure you take any and all medication, and avoid rubbing your eyes at all costs as this could dislodge the flap on your cornea before it’s fully healed.
We’ll perform an eye exam with you a day or two after your procedure to make sure you can drive without glasses or contacts. It’s very important that you do not drive until we’ve told you it’s okay.
You may be able to work the day after your surgery, though we do recommend taking a few days to rest. It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise for at least a week after your procedure.
