Eye Exams: an Annual Affair

Getting your eyes checked once a year is an important part of maintaining good eye health. Many eye diseases, (like Glaucoma) don’t exhibit symptoms until your vision is already significantly diminished. Whether it’s keeping your prescription up to date or detecting early signs of disease, annual eye exams ensure you know exactly what’s going on with your eyes.

Your Eyes Are in Good Hands At Your Cary Eye Doctor

Your comfort is the most important thing to us. We offer a warm and friendly environment where you can relax and experience your eye exam stress free. It’s important that you feel confident about your appointment, so we’ll always take extra time to answer your questions and put your concerns to rest.

Getting to Know You

We’ll start off by asking you some questions. We want to hear about any vision issues you’ve noticed and any medications you’re taking. We’ll ask about your work environment, your overall health, and your family medical history. It’s all about considering any factors that might affect your eye health. But don’t worry! There are no wrong answers.

Testing What You See

This next section is probably what you think of when we talk about eye exams. We’ll use wall and reading charts to check acuity in each eye. Based on those results, we may prescribe glasses or contacts, or maybe suggest some eye exercises.

Testing How You See

Now it’s time to check the functionality of your eyes. We’ll do a few tests to evaluate depth perception, color vision, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light. We’ll also make sure your eyes are focusing, moving, and working together they way they’re supposed to.

Testing Your Eye Health

Finally, we’ll use light and magnification to take a good look at your eyeballs and eyelids. We may dilate your pupils so we can take a peek at the internal structure of your eye. Using little puffs of air, we’ll measure your eye pressure. From there, we’ll go over your results with you, answer your questions, and talk about any necessary treatment options.

Getting Your Glasses

Our experienced staff is happy to help you pick out the perfect pair of frames to suit your personality and lifestyle. Based on your face shape, we’ll suggest the most flattering style for you. Or if you want, you can just try on pair after pair until you fall in love!

Getting Your Specialty Contacts

At Wake Family Eye Care, we specialize in fitting contacts and specialty contacts. Whether you’re looking for Ortho-K lenses, or you just needed lenses for your “hard to fit” eyeballs, we’ll set you up with contacts that work for you.
